EducationI have my BA honors in Sociology with a focus in Disability Studies. Alongside my studies I have completed ASL 1000 and 3000 levels as well as taken specific training in learning disabilities, as well as autism, on how they impact students at the post-secondary level . I am currently pursuing my Masters in Counseling Psychology where I will get my psychotherapist license.
Experience--> 5yrs experience tutoring students at the post secondary level
--> 2 year experience tutoring students in American Sign Language
--> I have direct experience working with students with a variety of disabilities including, but not limited to, ADHD, learning disabilities, hearing loss, autism, and anxiety disorders. In my experience, many of these students often present with anxiety especially during the peek parts of the academic year where managing their course load can be of particular challenge for them and so I am accustomed to dealing with situations where students are feeling overwhelmed and need that additional support from me. Often times with these students we work on ways to manage their anxiety in addition to whatever we are working on at the time.
In addition to the subjects listed in subjects section, I also offer sessions in social skills, how to manage anxiety, understanding your disability and how it will impact you at the post-secondary level, presentation skills, and learning strategies to better manage your course load.
--> Experience tutoring in one-on-one and in group sessions. Have tutored in person as well as online.
--> I have training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy and can use DBT exercises to help teach you how to learn mindfulness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance.
--> Experience working with elementary, high school, and post-secondary students
--> I have worked within a grade 4 classroom, a grade 10 applied English classroom, and ASL lecture as a teachers assistant.
***NOTE: Tutoring sessions can be conducted in either English or American Sign Language
